Looking for a versatile, easy-to-make recipe that’s sure to please your family?
Then I’ve got three words for you – King’s Hawaiian Sliders.
My cousin Carol introduced Dave and me to the classic King’s Hawaiian Ham and Swiss Sliders recipe, when we eagerly accepted her invitation to lunch. She’s quite a cook, so we knew we were in for a treat. Carol accompanied the sliders with a colorful, crisp garden salad, making them a perfect summer lunch pairing.
I had to ask for the recipe after Dave and I managed to leave the pattern on her china, though not a crumb remained on our plates. The sliders were that good. As soon as Carol said the recipe came from the King’s Hawaiian website, I couldn’t wait to log onto the Internet later that day.
King’s Hawaiian Ham and Swiss Sliders – Ingredients
24 slices of deli honey ham
6 slices of Swiss cheese, cut into fourths
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon poppy seeds
1 1/2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/2 cup butter melted
1 tablespoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 packages (12 count) King’s Hawaiian Original Hawaiian Sweet Dinner Rolls
Dave could see my wheels turning. Oh the possibilities, I thought with a smile. I was anxious to begin planning my tweaks to the recipe, which danced like sugar plums in my head. How about turkey and Cheddar? Or roast beef, Cheddar and horseradish or wasabi? Salami/pepperoni and provolone with marinara sauce?
Instead of using melted butter and poppy seeds on top, how about a smear of sweet cream spread or garlic butter, topped with grated Parmesan cheese, sesame seeds or Italian seasoning? And in the fall and winter months, why not add a cup of soup as the side dish? I was giddy with endless possibilities, such was my enthusiasm. King’s Hawaiian Sliders, welcome to the family.
The first time I made the sliders, about a week later, Dave and I decided on honey ham and Cheddar with mayo, topped with sweet cream spread and a liberal sprinkling of grated Parmesan (see photo). We’ve been enjoying King’s Hawaiian Sliders about every two weeks since, making this a favorite, all-season recipe in our household.
